Visit Greening your Business Expo at the greenest ballpark in America

Target Field is not only the Major Leagues’ newest ballpark, it has now been declared the greenest. The U.S Green Building Council has awarded Target Field LEED® Silver Certification. LEED stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” and is an internationally recognized green certification program. Dave St. Peter (President – Minnesota Twins) said Target Field is ranked two points higher than the Washington National’s ballpark, making it the “greenest” ballpark in America!

Target Commercial Interiors is proud to have done our part in the awarding of Target Field a LEED® Silver Certification. Throughout the furnishings selection process, products were assessed not only for their adherence to design intent, but their role in meeting the sustainability goals of the project. (more…)

The Green Acoustics Paradox

Modern corporate interiors with their open air design, natural light, clean air and “productive ambiance” contribute to employee health and productivity. This article, however, alerts readers to the fact that sustainable office design often fails to address one important area of health and productivity – acoustics. Not only are there no LEED credits for acoustics [except for LEED for Schools] but current green design paradoxically can negatively impact employee health and performance. The author assures readers that this issue is far from a trivial one. Surveys show that distracting noise and a lack of acoustical privacy are at the top of workplace complaints, more so in green than in non-green buildings. Part of the problem is that the open air designs that let in light and airflow are inherently noisy due to reduced opportunities for sound absorption. (more…)

TCF Bank Stadium: University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota began actively exploring a new on-campus Gopher football stadium in 2003. Fundraising began immediately and the result is located on the East Bank of the Twin Cities campus, – the 50,805-seat TCF Bank Stadium, designed by Populous as the new home for Golden Gopher Football.

It is just the 6th on-campus football stadium of its size to be built in the last 50 years.

Of further note, the Stadium has been awarded LEED® Silver Certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute. With this designation,
TCF Bank Stadium becomes the first LEED certified new football stadium in the country.

Working closely with architects HOK/Populous and interior designers at Studio Hive and The Alliance, Target Commercial Interiors provided furnishings in the 39 private suites, and the 2 large premium club suites.

ABCs Of Green Acoustics

Green buildings are getting a lot of attention these days for their environmental and health impacts and long-term cost savings. For all this attention, notes the author, many of these buildings fall short of expectations in their acoustical performance. Part of the problem seems to be that LEED and other rating systems don’t include specific acoustical credits, and designers are simply too caught up in more top of mind considerations to even think about this issue. The good news is that open-plan green workspaces can get the proper acoustics as easy as ABC… (more…)
