The Runway Comes to Target Commercial Interiors

IIDA Northland Fusion+FashionThe fashion runway came to Target Commercial Interiors on November 23rd. The six winners of the 11th Annual IIDA Fusion+Fashion Show event are displaying their costumes in our Nicollet Mall windows from November 23rd – December 8th. Five of the six winners are from the A&D community and one is from Dakota County Technical College. All of the winners were excited to participate and have their creativity displayed on Nicollet Mall.

From IIDA Northland – “This action-packed show proudly benefits People Serving People, whose mission is to serve homeless children and their families and provide new opportunities for healthy, stable family life. In addition to a portion of the event proceeds being donated to People Serving People, 100% of the proceeds raised from mask sales and the silent auction will be donated to People Serving People.”

How to Optimize Your Co-Working Space

I hate my officeThis article begins with an interesting question: ‘Have you ever typed “I hate my office” into a search engine?’ The author then humorously goes on to tell us that unlike traditional employees stuck in an office, coworkers in comparison have the freedom to design their space to their comfort level. He shares with us a few tips on how to make our work zones a little bit more comfortable.

For instance, sitting on the right chair can make a world of difference to our derrières (especially after 8 hours of straight sitting) and we don’t even have to shell out big bucks to be ergonomically right. Or, how to work in a noisy office without feeling the need to banish our coworkers into a closet.

Or, how the right size desk has enough room for a laptop, morning latté, papers to spread out, files to toss down, color code paper clips neatly…you get the idea.

Attracting Library Traffic Through Design

Libraries draw traffic because they generate a large number of repeat visitors that are attending regularly to check out and return books, participate in programs, use public computers, etc. This article explains a number of strategies that can tie a public library into a development that draws traffic. They include:

  • Main-street designs used by open-air shopping centers
  • An overall design that creates a community icon
  • Using the library itself as the icon
  • Adding a second anchor in the fashion of a mall

Tips on Creating a Productive Office Environment

Author Lois Goodell covers several tips on turning your workspace from good to great. If you are leasing a space, your landlord might provide a basic facelift such as new carpet or fresh paint. However, once you’ve moved in, you may notice other opportunities to upgrade your environment.

HVAC is often overlooked at a contributor to productivity, but comfortable employees are productive employees. Goodell notes that understanding individual preferences can help prioritize needs such as adjecency to windows and screen glare, or task lighting needs.
